Choosing the Right Hydration Pack for Your Needs

An important part of any strenuous activity is proper hydration. Carrying a water bottle, however, isn’t always practical. Hydration backpacks provide a convenient alternative. They are designed to transport water while keeping your hands free.

Which hydration pack is right for you?

Hydration backpacks include a bag you fill with water and a built-in hydration system. A drinking tube, much like a long straw, allows you to take a drink of water without stopping your run or interrupting your bike ride. Although you may feel a bit like a hamster when you sip from the tube, a hydration pack makes it much easier to stay effectively hydrated.

This piece of equipment is extremely helpful for long-distance running or cycling, especially in the heat. You no longer need to choose between stopping or dehydration. You don’t even need to slow down to take a drink.

Remember to stay hydrated during any exercise routine!

While it’s always a good idea to hydrate prior to the start of any physical activity, you need to continue during exertion as well. Since hydration packs are available in different sizes and shapes, you can select one suited to your activity. There are models intended specifically for running, cycling, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. After determining the style you need, check the capacity of the pack to be sure there’s enough space for your water and gear. The pack should also fit your torso length and hip size.

There are various additional features to choose from, including different types of bite valves, quick-disconnect tubing, cold-weather add-ons, rain covers, and clip on shoulder straps to keep your tube positioned for easy access.

While the pack may seem a bit cumbersome at first, they are lightweight and quite comfortable. And because sufficient hydration is essential to your well-being and fitness goals, it’s definitely worth the investment.
